Collections I have kept

I have had many obsessions and collections over the years. I remember how I used to download every image that I saw on the Internet that I liked. It was hard to have the space back then, so I would save them to external disks (compact and floppy and — infrequently – hard). I also liked to print out the images so that I could keep them in a folder or paste them to my walls. I once printed a list of every person who ever played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. I printed out early webcomics. I also cut out comics from the newspapers that my Bubie had saved to ostensibly help keep moths away.

I collected desktop icons from Iconfactory. They had the coolest 32-bit icons and I loved the skill they put into them. The 64-bit icons felt boring by comparison.

I have a collection of baseball cards. So many baseball cards and I don't know what to do with them. I also have a collection of button pins from over the years. I was delighted to see the pin of my father in college and one of my when I was probably four and all dressed up in a pink ruffly outfit.

I once collected gum and Andes mint wrappers because you could peel the foil from the backing and then adhere it to your calculator or a book. I saved way more than I needed for a "future project." I forget when I finally threw them away. I'm glad I let that one go.
